MacDonald Tartan Design & Consultancy provides a unique service from one
of Scotland’s foremost tartan experts specialising in all aspects of Tartan;
from design to cloth, finished garments, film and book consultancy and much
more. The emphasis is on the provision of unusual, traditional and rare
tartans identified, researched or designed to meet individual customer needs.
Over 5000 tartans are available in material and finished goods;
graphics and other specialist information are also available.

The portrait of the MacDonald Boys is a fine example of an old clan era picture showing tartans that are no longer known or have fallen out of fashion but which can, if the portrait is sufficiently clear, be reconstructed with considerable accuracy. In this example four similar but different tartans are worn in addition to the diced hose worn by both boys. The only one known today is the so-called Lord of the Isles – shown right, which was first shown in a book of 1893. |
